E-Business



E-business refers to the activity of using technology, specifically Internet technology to enhance the business processes of your company or organization. Do you remember BPR (Business Process Re-Engineering), well, this is BPR by default. It refers to the complete range of activities that run a company and is therefore often regarded as an all-or –nothing approach.

Very little has changed about the methodology of running any particular business, but the terminology that is coined to describe them has been radically altered. The types of business are now referred to as:

• Business to business (B2B)
• Business to consumer. (B2)
• Government to consumer (G2C)
• Government to business (G2B)

The various forms of activity that make use of E-business tools may consist of the following:

• The on-line transfer of goods and services
• Electronic retailing (E-tailing)
• managing general business functions
• Marketing of or using websites to market goods and services
• E-mail and other communications functions and activities
• Personnel training

The e-business tools exist for use in the activities outlined above range from the handheld to the worldwide. They include:

• Mobile cellular telephones
• Personal Digital Assistants
• Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
• File transfer protocols, notably FTP.
• Fax.
• Video conferencing using and networks of variousscope scch as Internet, intranets, and extranets.
